What is the sail position for downwind sailing?
The sail position for downwind sailing is called a broad reach or a run. This means the wind is coming from behind the boat, and the sails are adjusted to catch the wind as it pushes the boat forward. The sails are let out to their fullest extent to capture as much wind as possible, and the boom is swung out to the side of the boat. This allows the sails to billow out and propel the boat downwind.
